Former Long Beach cop sentenced to nearly 6 years in prison for distributing child porn

(The AEGIS Alliance) – On Monday, an Ex-Cop who used to work for the Long Beach Police Department was sentenced to nearly six years, or a total of 70 months in a federal penitentiary for distributing sexually explicit pictures of kids, even while he worked on duty as a police officer, according to The Los Angeles Times.

In addition, 57-year-old Anthony Brown has been ordered to pay a $15,000 fine as well as to be put on a lifetime of monitored release when he is discharged from the penitentiary, the U.S. Attorney’s Office Central District of California mentioned in a public statement.

Anthony Brown who used to reside in Lakewood and who also currently lives in Island, Kentucky, gave a guilty plea in court on March 21 to a single count of child porn distribution, KTLA 5 had previously reported.

Before that in September of 2021, however, Brown gave a not guilty plea when he was arraigned on 3 counts of child porn distribution as well as a single count of child porn possession, according to KTLA 5.

Between the times of October 2019 to May 2020, Brown made use of MeWe, an online-based messenger app, to participate in sexually explicit chats with users on MeWe. Anthony Brown also impersonated his wife when he “discussed encouraging fictitious minor female relatives to participate in group sex acts,” the Attorney’s Office indicated.

While Brown was logged in when he was on duty as a cop with the Long Beach Police Department, he circulated pictures of teens, as well as prepubescent girls, engaging in explicit sexual activities, the U.S. Attorney’s Office stated.

On May 27, 2020, a detective with the Long Beach Police contacted Brown and informed him that a profile connected with his telephone number had been used to upload child porn.

The department then launched an investigation into Brown that same month following the authorities receiving a confidential tip concerning possible criminal activity against a juvenile, the Los Angeles Times noted back then on his 2021 indictment. Brown, at that point, was suspended with no pay.

Brown had been working as a police officer in Long Beach Police for the past 27 years, most recently ordered to work in a Long Beach airport safety and security assignment. Brown left the department in 2021 following his apprehension by authorities on state charges of child porn possession and distribution. The L.A. County District Attorney’s Office disregarded those charges in light of there being a federal case.

Homeland Security Investigations as well as the Long Beach Police Department had investigated the allegations against Anthony Brown for the case.
