Stacy Gardner, the Deputy Coroner said the incident happened at 289 Highway 49.
Gardner said age 28 Jason Fowler died after his toddler managed to get a hold of a gun in the home and fired a shot, hitting Fowler in the back.
There is still an investigation into confirming what happened, but Jones County Sheriff Butch Reese suspects that’s what happened.
At around 9:40 p.m. Jason Fowler was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fowler’s family has been notified, Gardner said.
Let this serve as a lesson that lawful gun owners need to keep their firearms in a secure place where children can’t reach them.
