First grade teacher arrested for sexually assaulting 6 students during recess

A 29-year-old educator, teaching first-grade young children in a primary school in Los Angeles, California, is facing accusations of engaging in sexual misconduct with six girls enrolled in the school.

According to a Wednesday announcement on July 12 by Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón, Martin Reyes Jr., an instructor at East Los Angeles’ Sunrise Elementary School, has been accused of 10 instances of indecent behavior towards a minor below 14 years old.

Pursuant to the district attorney’s office, on May 22, a female student disclosed that Reyes had perpetrated sexual misconduct against her. Detectives assert that Reyes sexually assaulted no less than six girls during break time in a classroom. The affected individuals were purportedly all enrolled in his class.

As per the LAPD, authorities apprehended Reyes, and his bail was fixed at $1 million. He is slated to make a court appearance on September 27th.

The LAPD declared it is in search of more children who have fallen prey to the crimes allegedly committed by Martin Reyes Jr.

In his statement, Gascón said, “Our educators are entrusted with creating a safe and nurturing environment where students can learn and grow without the fear of abuse or exploitation. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that schools are places where all students can thrive, free from the threat of sexual violence.”
