Miami-Dade police officer threw cheeseburger at wife, then punched her in head

According to authorities, a police officer from Miami-Dade was taken into custody on Thursday for reportedly throwing a cheeseburger from McDonald’s at his spouse and striking her in the head.

According to a police report acquired by WPLG, a dispute over money and unfaithfulness arose between a 34-year-old man named Andres Perez and his spouse in their Miramar residence located in Broward County. The altercation escalated into a physical confrontation.

Around 6 p.m., law enforcement arrived at the residence in response to a distress call. Perez’s spouse informed the officers that he forcefully entered the kitchen and hurled the burger toward her, then delivered a blow to the area behind her right ear.

The police officer was taken into custody and accused of assault.

According to the report, the pair has been in a relationship for eight years and has been married for three years. The report indicates that they had kids together.

“It is disheartening to learn that one of my officers was arrested for a domestic violence incident, that occurred while he was off duty,” Stephanie Daniels, Miami-Dade Police Interim Director said in a statement.

“Police officers are held to a higher standard; this type of behavior will not be tolerated. Any actions that may hinder the public’s confidence in law enforcement is unacceptable,” Daniels concluded.

The incident outcome regarding Perez’s discipline or termination remains unconfirmed by the department.
