The dog refuses to bite the dust!

According to his owner, the oldest dog in the world will be celebrating his 31st birthday in Portugal with a bone-themed party.

Bobi, a Rafeiro do Alentejo purebred, born on May 11, 1992, has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the “oldest living dog” and holds the title for being the oldest recorded canine in history.

Leonel Costa, 38, has announced that his beloved pet, the good old boy, will be throwing a birthday party in the village of Conqueiros on Saturday. The celebration is expected to include 100 attendees, including individuals from various countries, and promises to be a howling good time.

Costa said to Guiness that “Looking at him is like remembering the people who were part of our family and unfortunately are no longer here, like my father, my brother or my grandparents who have already left this world. Bobi represents those generations.”

The senior scent detector is part of a lineage of enduring dogs, which includes his mother, Gira. She lived a long life and passed away at the age of 18.

He claimed the title of the oldest dog in February by surpassing an Ohio Chihuahua named Spike from his throne. Bobi’s birth date was verified by the Veterinary Medical Service of the Municipality of Leiria and the government-operated pet database SIAC.

Rafeiro do Alentejos, which are watchdogs for livestock, have an average lifespan of 12 years.
