Police: New Orleans Airport Workers Stole Cash, Guns, Electronics and More from Luggage

New Orleans, Louisiana – In a shocking turn of events, two individuals working at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport have been apprehended for their alleged involvement in a series of thefts from checked luggage. The suspects, identified as 20-year-old Karl Brown Jr. and an unidentified woman, were recently taken into custody following an investigation led by local authorities.

According to a report by Nola.com, the accused individuals, who were employed by a company contracted to repair the airport’s baggage handling system, stand accused of stealing various valuable items, including cash, firearms, electronics, and other belongings from passengers’ bags. Captain Jason Rivarde of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office revealed this disheartening information.

While the exact details surrounding their involvement remain undisclosed, it is understood that Brown and the woman are believed to have committed these acts between December 2019 and May 2020. As part of the investigation, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Brown’s apartment, where they discovered a multitude of items previously reported stolen by travelers. Among the recovered possessions were handbags, high-end jewelry, a handgun, a knife, electronic devices, and articles of clothing.

It is important to note that Brown and the unnamed woman were not employed directly by the airport, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), or any specific airline as luggage handlers. Rather, they were employees of a contracted firm responsible for repairing the baggage handling infrastructure.

Karl Brown Jr. now faces a slew of charges, including three counts of possessing stolen property, two counts of theft, and the simple possession of marijuana. On the other hand, the woman was arrested in a different jurisdiction and will face similar charges upon her return to Jefferson Parish.

This incident has raised concerns over the security measures in place at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. Travelers are advised to remain vigilant and take precautionary steps to safeguard their belongings while traveling through the airport. Authorities have assured the public that steps will be taken to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.

For any further updates on this case, individuals are encouraged to follow the official announcements made by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
