(The AEGIS Alliance) – An age 23 male suspect in North Carolina that was wanted by authorities for 4 years got apprehended for the purported 2017 rape and murder of his 5-year-old niece.

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office released a statement that says David Wesley Prevatte got arrested on Friday, February 4 following the sheriff’s acquiring an arrest warrant on a first-degree murder charge, along with first-degree statutory rape, as well as statutory sex offenses with a child. Prevatte gave a guilty plea in 2019 at a court in Pender County, North Carolina on unconnected charges of intimidating a witness, larceny, burning a property, as well as breaking and entering. He had been discharged from a penitentiary in January of 2020.

Paitin Fields was the victim who had been transported to a North Carolina medical center on November 13 in 2017. She passed away a few days afterward. Her autopsy apparently showed indications of sex-related trauma and also strangulation. WCET-TV reported that the medical examiner took note that the Pender Memorial Hospital emergency room personnel “noticed what appeared to be ligature marks on her neck, consistent with strangulation” at the time she had been brought in. Also, the postmortem examination took note that Fields possessed a “presence of acute hemorrhage,” that certainly “indicates sexual trauma.”

According to WCET, the Pender County Sheriff’s Office had named Prevatte as a suspect for Fields’ murder in 2018. Prevatte purportedly barked threats during a phone call to his mom regarding the lead detective in the case, claiming the detective has “got it coming to him” and also that the detective “is coming to an end.”

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office points out that David Wesley Prevatte has been locked up at the Parish jail, however, he is going to be extradited back to North Carolina.

The Pender County Sheriff stated, “This has been an ongoing investigation and I am extremely pleased and proud of the effort that has been put into this investigation by my personnel. I would also like to express my thanks to Sheriff Craig Webre and his staff in Lafourche Parish for assisting our investigators with taking Prevatte into custody.”
