Man wakes up to discover $65,000 mysteriously transferred to his bank account

He woke up to the scent of freshly minted money!

Yahoo News Australia reported that a resident of Sydney, Australia, was apparently taken aback when he woke up to find an enigmatic sum of $65,215 had been deposited into his bank account.

“I was worried at first because I thought I got hacked,” the man said, who was not identified.

The customer of HSBC mentioned that he discovered the funds in his account while randomly looking at his banking app after waking up.

“It was pretty tempting to do something dodgy, I’m not going to lie. But a quick Google search saying it’s a crime was enough for me,” the good samaritan stated.

The guy referred to the cash as an amount that could greatly change his life and mentioned that although he initially experienced emotions of thrill, his sense of right and wrong eventually prevailed.

“I brought myself back to the reality that this is too good to be true and I won’t be keeping that money,” he noted.

The recipient of the unplanned fortune contacted his bank through the chat function on the application to notify them of the seeming mistake.

“That sounds so worrying,” a bank representative said to the man after he told them what happened.

The man received an email from Tim Mozsny, the head of HSBC’s mortgage services, assuring him that the problem with the payment would be settled.

Following the issue being resolved, the customer incurred a $6.25 fee for a surcharge on a cash advance. However, he also received $63, which he presumed was a gesture of gratitude from the financial institution for highlighting the mistake.

Although the man stated when he woke up to all of that money in his bank account that he felt a “blissful and magnificent feeling,” he mentioned the whole situation was “annoying.”

In a statement to Yahoo, the bank said “We can’t comment on individual account matters due to client confidentiality. If customers believe an error has been made in regards to their accounts, we ask them to contact our dedicated customer service team.”

Mistakes made by banks that lead to a customer’s account having an unusually large sum of money are not uncommon and can be quite disorienting.

In the year 2018, a venture capitalist residing in Manhattan experienced an occurrence where he found $89 million in his bank account after waking up. He also notified the bank about this incident, but the funds were taken away within 90 minutes.
