Mayor, police chief and clerk of Iowa city charged with felony crimes
(The AEGIS Alliance) – The mayor, police chief, and city clerk in the small neighborhood of Armstong, Iowa, have been charged with felonies after a years-long probe revealed misappropriated municipal funds, misleading public records, and falsified ledgers, according to officials on Friday.
Mayor Greg Buum and police chief Craig Merrill have each been charged with ongoing felony conduct, the Emmett County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Tracie Lang, the town clerk, has been charged with first-degree fraudulent practice, and Connie Thackery, a former city clerk, has been charged with ongoing felony conduct.
Armstrong, home to some 840 folks, is situated about 150 miles northwest of Des Moines.
The sheriff’s office stated that its investigation additionally discovered that a stun gun was deployed against a civilian for money. Charges had been filed on Thursday.
The defendants face a 21-count joint trial and one other arrest is pending, authorities said.
The Iowa Attorney General’s Office will prosecute the case at the request of the local county attorney due to a potential conflict of interest.
