Rare Amur Tiger Killed in UK Safari Park – 2nd To Die In Past Week
(The AEGIS Alliance) – The Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire, England says a rare Amur tiger was killed during a fight with a couple other tigers.
The safari park stated today that the female Amur tiger named Shouri died during a fight that happened on Tuesday after entering an enclosure where a couple of mating tigers were being kept.
According to officials, they have launched an investigation into determining how Shouri was able to enter the enclosure by going through a door that was unlocked. 12 of Shouri’s 13 years had been spend at the park.
The park is located 100 miles miles, or 160 kilometers west of London. It was not open to the public at the time of the incident.
The death of Shouri happened just five days after a Sumatran tiger had been killed by a mating prospect at the London Zoo.
Amur tigers are on the endangered species list, and there are as little as 500 of them left in the wild.
