Pennsylvania cop allegedly raped 13-month-old who suffered broken bones and severe bruising

A 28-year-old cop has been placed on leave from his job and jailed following accusations that he sexually assaulted a 13-month-old infant under his supervision, resulting in serious harm.

Per a Pennsylvania State Police report, Lykens Police Department officers were called to investigate extensive bruising on a 13-month-old child that occurred between April 11 and April 15. The child was taken to Hershey Medical Center, where doctors discovered broken bones and severe bruising.

According to documents examined by WHP-TV, the “Criminal complaints” detailed the extent of her injuries, including a fractured tibia and fibula. Authorities reported that medical experts observed indications of sexual assault on the young girl.

As per WHTM-TV, the mother of the 13-month-old informed authorities that the child slipped during their bath. Additionally, she allegedly “offered unlikely justifications for numerous other wounds on the child’s body” and claimed that the family pet was responsible for the child’s extensive bruises.

Steven Cugini was identified by law enforcement as a potential suspect. In a questioning session, he confessed to authorities that he had altered the child’s diapers and washed her, resulting in her sustaining injuries in the bathroom.

As per WHTM, the mother of the victim informed officials that Cugini barricaded himself in the bathroom with the child, and she could discern sobbing and noisy commotion.

Steven Cugini ultimately admitted to authorities that the victim was injured while under his supervision, according to a report from WHP. Officials did not disclose Cugini’s connection to the child.

As per law enforcement officials, criminal charges were authorized against Cugini by the Dauphin County District Attorney’s Office on April 16. WHTM stated that the individual is accused of various offenses, such as “sexual assault of a minor,” “serious sexual misconduct with a minor,” and “violent attack.” Cugini was detained in the Dauphin County Jail with bail set at $200,000.

As per a declaration from York City Police Commissioner Michael Muldrow, Steven Cugini has been placed on suspension while the investigation takes place.

Muldrow noted that “If these allegations are founded, trust and believe I’ll be the first to take swift and definitive action against them.”
