“There isn’t any daylight between the United States, the Republic of Korea, and Japan,” Pence insists, stating that the three nations are in unity on the need to continue the worsening of North Korea being in isolation.
This is a position that U.S. officials regularly hold, but with the leadership of South Korea openly in talks with North Korea, and making efforts in arranging direct talks with the United States and North Korea, there is clearly substantial daylight being seen there, and it continues to grow.
It was made obvious from before the VP’s departure that Pence’s role during the Olympics would be attempting to undercut diplomacy efforts. Officials have probably been thinking this would be easier to accomplish, but with practice, Pence has mainly spent his time there visibly avoiding to shake hands, and dismisses all the real occurrences from reporters.
