Thousands in Colorado without heat in freezing weather after vandals attack gas system

(The AEGIS Alliance) – Thousands of people in Aspen, Colorado are without power. The weather is near zero. The power is out due to vandals and possible environmental activists attacking the gas supply to this city.

The vandals attacked the Black Hills Energy lines. One of these attacks was in Aspen and there were two other attacks in Pitkin Country. Around 3,500 people do not have heat due to these attacks, according to The Aspen Times.

The police state that the words “Earth first” was written on a pipe near the attack. It was not clear if a group with the same names committed the acts.

Bill Linn who is the assistant police chief in Aspen said that to pull off this act the vandals had to be familiar with the gas system and how it worked.

“They tampered with flow lines,” Linn said. “They turned off gas lines.”

Black Hill Energy company is working hard to fix the damage and get residents their heat back.

Aspen reached temperatures of negative four degrees on Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service.

The FBI has been called in to assist with finding those responsible for the vandalism.
