According to the family’s allegations, a mother who was homeless and sleeping in a park in California met her demise last week when she was struck by a lawnmower. The investigators left pieces of her body scattered on the grass.
27-year-old Christine Chavez had been laying in the high grass of Modesto’s Beard Brook Park approximately at midday on July 8th. At that time, a worker operating a John Deere tractor equipped with a trailing mower cleared the vicinity.
The employee who has not been identified mentioned that he did not notice the slumbering lady until he “noticed a body in the grass he had already made a pass through,” police in Modesto stated.
The worker phoned 911, but Chavez was declared dead on the scene.
Relatives expressed that their sorrow has been intensified by what they described as a disrespectful and mishandled cleanup process.
“They left big chunks of her all over the place, just covered up with the grass,” Raslalinda, sister of Chavez said to Fox 40.
“We have to go see the place because we wanted some kind of closure, and to be right there, looking at the ground, and then all of a sudden, seeing chunks of her, is horrible.”
“Even when they go and pick up a dog from the street they take more time.”
Christopher, the father of Chavez, expressed that he managed to retain fragments of his daughter’s bones, cranium, and teeth following her demise.
The family of Chavez suspects that her remains were treated recklessly, possibly due to her status as one of the numerous homeless inhabitants of the urban area.
Chavez, who is a parent to a 9-year-old girl, had been without a permanent residence for the past three or four years and frequently stayed overnight at the park. The park had recently been officially obtained by the closeby E&J Gallo Winery, as reported by the Modesto Bee.
The park, which spans 12 acres, is regularly visited by individuals without housing and previously functioned as an approved campsite for the local homeless population prior to the change in ownership.
Other homeless people said they saw Chavez wash her hair in the park’s creek before going to sleep on a hill near the playground and baseball field.
Additional unhoused individuals claimed to have witnessed Chavez washing her hair in the creek located within the park prior to resting on a hill in close proximity to the playground and baseball area.
After twenty more minutes went by, the lawnmower plowed through the area.
The family of Chavez is currently demanding justice for the demise of their beloved and advocating for more robust municipal regulations that safeguard individuals without shelter.
“She didn’t deserve that for that reason, for being homeless,” her elder brother, 33-year-old Randy Chavez from Arizona said. “My sister was loved. The only thing she wanted was to be free.”
“We want ordinances to change so it doesn’t happen again. Regardless if they are homeless they are still people and should be treated the same as any other people.”

Autopsy report isn’t out yet, she was probably dead before he accidentally ran her over, the grass she was in was waist deep and the dad blames the operator, like huh, if the family cared so much about her why was she homeless, but they care enough to sue after she’s gone
