Indiana Woman Charged with Multiple Felonies for Burning a Baby
DELAWARE COUNTY, INDIANA – In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old woman named Amber Vannatter from Delaware County, Indiana, has been charged with multiple felonies after allegedly admitting to abusing an infant she was babysitting. The incident has left the community perplexed and concerned about the safety of children under the care of others.
According to the Star Press, Vannatter was entrusted with the care of a 1-year-old girl while her mother went to work on Friday afternoon at around 3:30 p.m. However, instead of ensuring the child’s well-being, she is accused of subjecting the innocent baby to unimaginable harm.
It has been reported that Vannatter allegedly caused friction burns on the baby’s delicate skin by forcefully pressing her torso and face against a functioning treadmill. The shocking act of cruelty demonstrated the extent of her alleged misconduct. Furthermore, it has been alleged that Vannatter even used a cigarette lighter to cause additional injuries to the defenseless infant.
Later, at around 9:30 p.m., Vannatter dropped off the victim at her mother’s workplace. Upon noticing the infant’s distressing condition, authorities wasted no time and promptly rushed the baby to the IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. In the emergency room, medical professionals immediately began providing the necessary treatment to address the injuries inflicted on the child.
Upon questioning, Vannatter reportedly attributed her abusive behavior to her own depression and the baby’s incessant crying, Detective Kris Swanson of the Muncie Police Department stated.
Law enforcement officials wasted no time in taking appropriate action. Vannatter was swiftly arrested and taken into custody, being booked into the Delaware County Jail at approximately 4 a.m. on Saturday. The charges she faces include neglect of a dependent, battery resulting in serious bodily injury to a person under the age of 14, and battery on a person under the age of 14.
Currently, as of Tuesday, Amber Vannatter remains incarcerated in the Delaware County Jail, with a bond set at $60,000. The incident has left the community in shock, raising concerns about the protection and wellbeing of children entrusted to the care of others.
