Man shot, killed in Nashville during ‘prank robbery’ for YouTube video gone wrong

(The AEGIS Alliance) – NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE – A man was shot and killed Friday evening at the parking lot of a business in Tennessee after a robbery “prank” for a YouTube channel went wrong, authorities said according to The Tennessean.

The homicide unit is investigating a claim of self-defense in the shooting, the Metro Nashville Police Department said in an announcement on Saturday.

20-year-old Timothy Wilks was shot and killed at the parking lot of Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park in Nashville at about 9:20 p.m. CST. When officers arrived on the scene just 5 minutes later, David Starnes Jr., age 23, confessed to shooting Wilks.

Investigators have been informed that Wilks and his buddy approached a group of individuals, together with Starnes, with butcher knives while taking part in a “prank” robbery for a YouTube video.

Starnes said he was unaware of the prank and that he shot Wilks to defend himself and others, in the release states.

There is an ongoing investigation into the incident, and as of Saturday afternoon, no charges have been filed against Starnes.
