Even though this tweet was reportedly meant to be a joke, and earned @OverlyLiked over 30,000 re-tweets and nearly 80,000 likes, it was not long before he was offered real requests to purchase his vest.

“The popularity of the tweet really did not surprise me… What shocked me was the news coverage of that,” @OverlyLiked stated to RT, and explained that aside from the bidders, numerous media outlets sought him out wanting to cover the story.

But @OverlyLiked’s now would-be buyers who were disappointed didn’t have to wait that long for other offers to be made. It seems that current and former employees of Walmart caught on quick to the idea and started offering to sell their own uniforms in earnest…

Other big chain store employees also wanted to get in on the employee vest selling action; such as Best Buy…

Meanwhile, others decided to go out searching for them…

However, Walmart apparently caught on to this new hustle, and has informed its employees to ‘question’ anyone they spot wearing one of their employee vests, whom they don’t recognize.

The American tradition of ‘Black Friday’ has become more intense during recent years as large retail stores seek to fend off the approaching ‘Cyber Monday’ when shoppers make all their purchases online ( such as Amazon) instead of dredging through massive crowds at Best Buy, Walmart or any other big retail stores. Retailers usually open late on Thursday night, before the holiday even ends, to offer huge discounts, prompting chaos nationwide as many videos and stories emerge of shoppers fighting with each other for the cheapest prices on anything from widescreen TV’s, to blenders , or even underwear. The Black Friday insanity was perhaps best encapsulated by this meme that was making the rounds a few years ago:
