Heavily armed man committed suicide instead of carrying out attack at Colorado amusement park

In an unsettling turn of events, a heavily armed individual, Diego Barajas Medina, chose to end his own life rather than unleash a potentially devastating attack on the idyllic Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Colorado. This incident, which unfolded on a fateful Saturday morning, has left the community reeling and raised numerous questions about the circumstances surrounding Medina’s actions.

The macabre discovery of Medina’s lifeless body in a women’s bathroom at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park sent shockwaves through the normally tranquil town. The park, yet to open its doors to the public, was shrouded in an eerie silence, broken only by the somber realization of the tragedy that had just transpired. The cause of death was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, a stark reminder of the fragility of life.

What truly sends chills down the spine is the arsenal that Medina had meticulously assembled. He was armed with an AR-style rifle, a semi-automatic handgun, and a collection of explosive devices. His attire, a combination of body armor and tactical clothing, bore an uncanny resemblance to that of a SWAT team member. The extent of his preparation and the potential carnage he could have inflicted are truly unsettling.

Adding to the enigma is a message scrawled on the bathroom wall, proclaiming, “I am not a killer, I just want to get into the caves.” While this message provides little clarity, it underscores the complexity of the situation. Nearby, a mix of genuine and imitation explosive devices, a handgun, and an AR-style rifle were found, further deepening the mystery.

Disturbingly, there were no apparent warning signs that Medina was planning such a violent act. He was a seemingly ordinary individual, living with his mother and brother, with plans to attend Colorado Mountain College. A search of his room yielded no indication of explosives or bomb-making materials, and he had no known criminal history or prior encounters with law enforcement.

The weapons in Medina’s possession were “ghost guns,” lacking serial numbers and thus impossible to trace. His clothing bore patches and emblems suggesting an association with law enforcement, adding another layer of intrigue to his motives.

Investigators believe that Medina accessed the park via a service road, highlighting the need for enhanced security measures in such remote locations. Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, nestled on a mountain above the Colorado River, offers a variety of attractions, including cave tours, an alpine coaster, and a pendulum swing ride with breathtaking views.

In the aftermath of this tragic incident, the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park issued a statement expressing condolences and emphasizing the importance of community resilience. Nancy Heard, the General Manager, acknowledged the profound impact of this event on the close-knit Glenwood Springs community.

As the investigation into this heartbreaking incident continues, it serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of human behavior and the importance of vigilance and security measures in public spaces. While the motives behind Medina’s actions may never be fully understood, the tragedy that was narrowly averted leaves an indelible mark on the community and serves as a call to reevaluate safety protocols in public venues. 1. If your not going to go after insanely rich people who manipulate the system against the vast majority of the planet and instead attack innocent people… he did the right thing.

  2. Something is not right here. People from Carbondale are pretty left leaning. No one spends that much time setting up an attack and then takes their own life. The caves are locked up. So, why would he expect to get into the caves?

I am going on the side- he may have been placed there.
